Sunset Sessions, Muddy Shoes, and Big Personalities: A Family Photography Adventure at Camp Aramoni

There’s nothing quite like photographing a family you’ve watched grow over the years—especially when the session includes a little bit of chaos, a couple scraped elbows, and a whole lot of love. My recent family photo session with the Stasells at the stunning Camp Aramoni in Illinois was one of those sessions I’ll be smiling about for a long time.

Even though I’ve had the joy of capturing both Emmett and Asher’s birthday milestones, it’s safe to say they weren’t exactly thrilled to see me again at first. Asher clung to dad like a shadow for the first 10 minutes, while Emmett made a break for it—running full speed in the opposite direction. Gotta love toddlers and their selective memories! But honestly, that’s part of the fun. The real magic happens in the in-between moments.

Eventually, Emmett discovered that running was the best thing ever and kept at it for a solid 15 minutes—until gravity reminded him to slow down. After a quick tumble and a couple scraped elbows, he was more than happy to snuggle in with mom, dad, and big brother for a few sweet moments.

We explored every dreamy pocket of Camp Aramoni, from golden hour meadows to peaceful riverbanks. (And yes, that trek down the steep hill to the water and back up again was a workout. Totally worth it.) There’s something about this place that invites adventure—and the Stasells were all in.

Danielle, absolutely glowing, was right in her element with her three handsome boys. Their playful energy, genuine connection, and laughter-filled moments made the session feel like one big exhale. It was messy in the best way, and exactly what I hope for in every family session.
