Carlsbad Desert Maternity Session with Saharah, Matthew & Their Sweet Pup, Cash

Just when I thought this Carlsbad maternity session couldn’t get any sweeter… enter Cash—their soulful-eyed desert pup who completely stole the show! 🐾

Okay, technically he’s not a puppy, but in my book, all dogs are forever puppies. Cash was not only incredibly well-behaved during their session, but he also brought the perfect mix of charm and chill desert dog vibes. Seriously, what a photogenic little guy!

But the real spotlight belonged to the baby bump that Saharah so lovingly carried.

One of my favorite moments? When Saharah revealed a tiny Winnie the Pooh onesie for their baby-on-the-way (Pooh just happens to be my forever favorite Disney character—cue all the childhood nostalgia!). And then? She topped it off with the most delicate Pooh bear necklace. My heart didn’t stand a chance. 🧸💛

Originally from Texas, Saharah brings warmth and sparkle to every frame, and Matthew—who’s practically a Carlsbad native (after growing up in Colorado)—grounds her energy beautifully. Together, they’re pure sunshine.

Their maternity shoot captured everything I love about photographing in southern New Mexico: powerful desert winds sweeping through Saharah’s hair like a scene from a movie, followed by a golden hour that blanketed the landscape in soft, dreamy light. ✨ As the sun dipped behind the mountains, they danced in the desert—belly, pup, and all—completely wrapped in anticipation and love.

We even joked about twins (not funny for Saharah, who does have twins in the family 😅). When I asked what they thought they were having, both answered “boy” without hesitation.

I’m still cheering for Team Girl, but we’ll all find out in September!

With a new baby arriving and a big move ahead, life is about to shift in the most beautiful way for these two. But if this session is any indication—the way they look at each other, the way they care for their sweet dog Cash—I have no doubt they’re going to be the kindest, most loving parents.
